This week Prince Harry visited Walking With The Wounded to meet some veterans currently being supported through our Head Start and Project Nova programmes. The event took place at the Gateshead Civic Centre and was an opportunity to show Prince Harry the work we are doing on providing specialist support to veterans at risk with mental health issues including those who come into contact with The Criminal Justice System.
We emphasised to the Prince how important it is for charities to work in collaboration with multiple organisations like Gateshead Council and the Police force to maximise the overall impact to the veteran in need. Key to maximising impact to the veteran is a holistic approach and collaborative working.
During the event Prince Harry commented:
"What you guys are doing here is truly fantastic. There are guys and girls who, because of you, have been taken out of an incredibly dark place and offered a train track heading in one direction. They have turned their lives around and can be recognised for the service that they gave and the people that they are, rather than the mistakes they made." Full Story
