Canadian landfills contribution to climate change


Improper waste management leads to the decomposition of organic waste in landfills producing a gas which is composed primarily of methane, a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. Methane is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide in terms of its global warming potential.
